First Signs of Spring in a Postglacial Landscape

Another lovely walk in a Hamburg suburb

Developed during the Glaciation of 13.000 years ago, the ponds of this valley are the last leftovers.

The Light is Coming Back

This afternoon, my husband and I took a one hour walk through the Hamburg quarter Winterhude, along the river Alster and canals, a region which is characterized by lovely shady gardens behind houses and villas of the more expensive kind, possibly an idyll in summer, but all private.

The last picture shows the view onto Hamburg city, so you see how close this is to the center. The lake is not a natural one, but it is the river Alster which was retained in the 12th century to serve a large Mill.
